David & Elise's bathroom

The story behind this painting is that my good friends David & Elise, were going to out of the country for 2 weeks, and asked me to water their plants. I lived just a few blocks away. I didn't have a studio, and with two small young boys and two curious cats, I couldn't set up my paints for a long multi-session still life. So I hauled my supplies over to their house (with their OK), and then began to cast about for a view I wanted to paint. I was enamored of Theibaud in this period and I saw in their retro periwinkle bathroom the sort of luscious colors he favored, but mostly the fascinating shadows of the objects and the reflective color in that white enamel painted door.
